On July 10th, the Vancouver Circus School headed to Whistler to spend the week at the Whistler Olympic Plaza offering daily workshops and two shows nightly as part of the Whistler Arts Council’s initiative to offer fun, family-friendly,interactive entertainment. The Whistler Arts Council’s generous support allowed us to offer free workshops to children and families of all ages, introducing them to trampoline (supplied by Vikan Trampolines), and juggling skills. The weather could not have been better, with blue skies and sunshine as the backdrop to our workshops and evening performances. July 10th, 11th and 12th, our professional performance group “Inner Ring Circus” wowed the local audiences with two 30-minute shows per night, starting with a troupe of roving performers winding through the village to entice the locals. The shows were a huge hit, delivering high energy acrobatics, dance and humour.
July 14th and 15th the Circus packed up our location at the Whistler Olympic Plaza and moved our set up to Whistler Creekside Village for the Whistler Children’s Art Festival. This was our 4th year being invited by the Whistler Arts Council to offer workshops and interactive demos as part of the celebrations. The workshops filled up fast, with participation in aerial silks, trampoline, juggling and tight wire. The weather held out for us the first day, but day two brought rain, wind and cooler temperatures. In true Whistler fashion, the festival went on and we offered those who braved the weather free juggling workshops and a dry spot under our tent. The Vancouver Circus School had another amazing year with The Whistler Arts Council, we hope to see everyone soon at our ongoing Whistler camps and classes, and we look forward to next year’s Whistler Children’s Art Festival.
